Diabetic Patients with Balanitis (Penile Skin Irritation)
In practice we often find cases of balanitis (irritation of the foreskin which
cover the head of the penis). Balanitis is often caused by a fungal or bacterial infection of the foreskin of a diabetic patient.
Penile skin redness, pain, itching, burning when urinating and sometimes difficult to pull back.
Patients with frequent balanitis infections are advised to undergo a circumcision procedure, to remove the skin covering the head of the penis, which causes irritation.
Diabetic patients with balanitis who are planning to undergo circumcision, should control their blood sugar with a random blood sugar test target of below 200. If the random blood sugar test is below 200, the patient is safe enough to perform the circumcision procedure.
Balanitis is often experienced by diabetic patients because the skin covering the head of the penis is moist, moist, which is a medium for the growth of bacteria and fungi. balanitis in diabetic patients often recurs, and interferes with the quality of urine (stinging) and sexual intercourse.
And diabetic patients have decreased immunity due to abnormal sugar levels. So easy to experience balanitis.
The treatment plan for a diabetic patient with balanitis is
1. Control diabetes with antidiabetic drugs
2. Circumcision (circumcision) to take the foreskin of the penis, which often has penile balanitis.
