Mycosis Skin Infection / Tinea Versicolor

Tinea versicolor in is a fungal infection that cause  spots on the skin.  The spots can be mildly itchy. The many small spots may blend into large patchy , most on the upper body like the chest and back. The spots can be lighter or darker than the skin colour

Causes

Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus infection. This fungus lives all around us, including on the skin.  In tropical areas, fungi may grow rapidly. As these fungi grow in number, the normal color of the skin changes, and spots appear.

Factor that increase your chance of getting tinea versicolor includ

Having an impaired immune system

Using certain medicines, such as corticosteroids, antibiotics

Sign and Symtomps

Symptoms of tinea versicolor include small, flat, round or oval spots that form patches. The spots occur most on the upper chest, back, or upper arms ,neck, or face. The spots lighter or darker than the skin around them. The spots are flat and may be white, pink, red, tan, or brown with scaly. And feels mildly itchy

How to Diagnose

Your doctor can diagnose tinea versicolor by looking  the spots.

The further laboratory test that used to help the diagnosa is the KOH test with scraping sampel of the spot.

Treatment

Topical treatments are the most common treatment for tinea versicolor ( include antifungal shampoos and creams)

Oral tablet antifungy recommended if the infection severe, returns often, or does not get better with skin care. But the oral tablet have side effects that can interfere the liver function.

Treatment of topical and oral tablet can kills the fungi quickly. But need time  for your skin color to return to normal couple of weeks until month.
